Travertine, Marble, Alabaster, Wood & Glass: Choosing Your Material
EyeRelief Studio
When light passes through stone, wood or glass, it takes on its character. That is why the material of a lamp matters as much as its shape. Here is a short guide to the materials you will find at EyeRelief.
Travertine
A natural limestone full of small pores and soft honey tones. Lit, it feels warm, earthy and calm — the signature material of wabi-sabi interiors. No two pieces are alike.
Pairs with: linen, oak, plaster walls, terracotta. Explore: Sanzhu™ and the Travertine collection.
Marble
Dense and elegant, with dramatic veining. When light shines through a thin marble shade, the veins glow like ink drawings. Timeless in bedrooms, bathrooms and dining rooms.
Explore: Shizhu™, Yuepan™ and the Marble collection.
Alabaster
A soft, translucent mineral that lets light through beautifully, with a milky, cloud-like glow. Perfect when you want light that is both bright and gentle.
Explore: the Alabaster collection.
Wood
Solid wood and wood-grain finishes bring instant warmth and a Scandinavian or Japandi feeling. Walnut reads rich and deep; light oak reads fresh and airy.
Explore: Mulin™, Huojian™ and the Wood collection.
Glass
From opal glass that diffuses a soft even light, to fluted and coloured glass that plays with reflections. Glass is the most versatile material: it can be minimal, vintage or artistic.

Natural fibre, ceramic & resin
Hand-knotted twine and rattan filter light into warm stripes; ceramic and stone-look resin bring a handmade, tactile feel at a lighter weight. Explore Shengsuo™ and the Ceramic collection.
Caring for natural materials
- Dust stone and wood with a dry, soft cloth — no water or chemicals on travertine, marble or alabaster.
- Glass can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth once the lamp is cool.
- Natural stone varies in color and veining: these differences are the proof that your piece is real and unique.
EyeRelief tip — Choose one main material per room and repeat it two or three times — a travertine sconce, a travertine table lamp, a stone vase. Repetition is what makes a room look designed.
